Russell “Rusty” Martin is a proud Tribal Citizen with strong family roots in Poarch, where he was raised and learned the values that continue to guide his life today.
Growing up in Poarch, Rusty experienced firsthand the importance of family, connection, and community. His grandparents, the late A.D. and Willie Lee Martin, played a significant role in shaping those values. They taught him the importance of staying connected, helping others, and giving back—lessons that have remained central throughout his life.

2017
Faith & Renewal
After retiring from corporate America, Rusty endured a period of health challenges. That season strengthened his faith and reinforced the importance of family, perseverance, and purpose.
2020
Returning Home
Rusty returned home to Alabama with a renewed sense of direction and commitment to his community.
Serving the Tribe Today
Since 2022, he has served as Division Director of Regulatory Affairs for the Poarch Band of Creek Indians. In this role, he oversees several departments that support the Tribe’s regulatory responsibilities and preservation efforts, including the Tribal Employment Rights Office (TERO), the Tribal Historic Preservation Office (THPO), Environmental Programs, and the Tribal Archives and Museum.
Having lived outside of the community for nearly twenty years, Rusty understands the importance of staying connected and ensuring that all Tribal Citizens—regardless of where they live—remain informed, engaged, and part of the community.
