What Our Tribe Deserves: Raising the Standard

There comes a point where we have to stop and ask ourselves a simple but powerful question:

What do our people truly deserve?

Not just what we’ve grown used to. Not just what we’ve been given. But what we should expect—as a strong, sovereign Tribe with a proud history and an even greater future ahead.

I believe the answer is clear.

Our people deserve more.

A Higher Standard

“Good enough” should never be the standard for our Tribe.

Our people deserve a government that works with purpose, communicates clearly, and delivers real results. That means:

  • Programs that create impact—not just activity
  • Leadership that follows through—not just talks about plans
  • Decisions that are made with transparency and accountability

We are capable of more—and it’s time we expect more.

Trust Is Built Through Action

Trust isn’t given. It’s earned.

As leaders, we can’t ask for trust—we have to build it through what we do every day. That means showing up, being accessible, and standing behind the decisions we make.

It also means being honest. Honest about what’s working. Honest about what’s not. And willing to make changes when needed.

Our people deserve leadership that doesn’t shy away from responsibility—but steps into it.

Supporting Our Working Families

We cannot raise the standard without supporting the families who carry the day-to-day weight of our community.

Our working families deserve:

  • Access to good jobs and career pathways
  • Support systems that help balance work and family life
  • Opportunities to build financial stability and generational wealth
  • Programs that are accessible, practical, and truly helpful

When our families are strong, our Tribe is strong. We should be building systems that make life better—not harder—for those doing the work every day.

Honoring Our Tribal Elders

Our Elders are the foundation of who we are.

They have preserved our culture, carried our history, and guided our path forward. Raising the standard means ensuring they are honored not just in words—but in action.

We must:

  • Ensure they have access to the care and support they need
  • Create meaningful opportunities for them to share their knowledge
  • Keep them connected and engaged within our community

Respecting our Elders isn’t a program—it’s a responsibility.

Investing in Our People

The strength of our Tribe has always been our people. If we want a stronger future, we have to invest in them today.

That means:

  • Preparing our youth with the tools they need to succeed
  • Creating real opportunities for Tribal Citizens to grow professionally
  • Supporting financial literacy and long-term economic stability
  • Building pathways for the next generation of leaders

This isn’t just about programs—it’s about building a future that lasts.

From Vision to Reality

We’ve all heard great ideas. But ideas alone don’t move us forward.

Execution does.

Raising the standard means turning vision into action:

  • Setting clear goals
  • Measuring progress
  • Holding ourselves accountable
  • Delivering results that people can see and feel

That’s how we create momentum. That’s how we create trust.

A Shared Responsibility

This isn’t just about leadership—it’s about all of us.

Raising the standard takes engagement. It takes showing up. It takes being willing to ask questions, expect answers, and be part of the process.

Our future will be shaped by the level of involvement we choose today.

The Opportunity in Front of Us

We have an opportunity right now—not just to improve, but to truly raise the standard for what Tribal leadership and community impact should look like.

The question isn’t whether we’re capable.

The question is whether we’re willing to expect more—for ourselves, for our leadership, and for our future.

Because our people—including our working families and our Elders—deserve nothing less.
