Listening, Learning, and Staying Connected
One thing I have come to believe strongly is this—communication matters.
Not just sharing information, but creating real opportunities for people to be heard, to ask questions, and to understand the “why” behind the decisions that impact our community.
That’s where grassroots meetings and community town halls come in.
Creating Space for Every Voice
I believe every Tribal Citizen has a voice.
And more importantly, every Tribal Citizen deserves to be heard.
Grassroots meetings and town halls create a space where conversations can happen openly—where questions can be asked, concerns can be shared, and ideas can be discussed.
Not just the easy conversations, but the tough ones.
Because those are often the ones that matter most.
Transparency and Accountability
Transparency and accountability are not just words—they are actions.
They show up when leadership is willing to stand in front of the community, answer questions, and explain the reasoning behind decisions.
People don’t just want to know what decisions are made—they want to understand why they were made.
Providing that clarity builds trust.
And trust is what keeps a community strong.
A Commitment to Ongoing Engagement
I support the idea of hosting grassroots meetings on a regular basis—quarterly—so that communication remains consistent and accessible.
Not just during election season, but as an ongoing commitment.
These meetings should be an opportunity to:
- Share updates
- Answer questions
- Listen to feedback
- Stay connected with our people
And just as important, they should be accessible to Tribal Citizens both within the community and those living outside of the area.
Connection should not be limited by distance.
Preserving Culture and Strengthening Connection
At the heart of all of this is something deeper—who we are as a people.
Protecting our history and maintaining connection within our community are essential to our identity.
That means:
- Supporting the preservation of our cultural resources
- Strengthening access to historical information and education
- Encouraging community engagement and involvement
- Ensuring all Tribal Citizens feel connected—no matter where they live
Having lived outside of the community for many years, I understand how important that connection is. It matters to feel included. It matters to stay informed. It matters to be part of something, even from a distance.
Moving Forward Together
Grassroots meetings and community town halls are more than just events—they are a commitment.
A commitment to listen.
A commitment to be transparent.
A commitment to be accountable.
And most importantly, a commitment to our people.
When we create space for open dialogue and stay grounded in connection, we strengthen not just communication—but the future of our community.
