Reflecting Forward: What Got Us Here—and What Will Take Us There
I recently spent time reflecting on What Got You Here Won’t Get You There by Marshall Goldsmith, and one idea stood out:
The habits and decisions that create success at one stage don’t always carry you to the next.
That doesn’t take away from what’s been built. It reminds us that growth requires evolution.
Honoring the Foundation
Our Tribe has achieved a great deal over the years. That progress is the result of leadership, hard work, and a shared commitment to building something better for the generations that follow.
It’s important to acknowledge that.
We don’t move forward by dismissing the past—we move forward by learning from it and building on it.
Defining What Comes Next
At the same time, we should be asking:
What will it take to get us to the next level?
What needs to evolve as we grow?
How do we prepare for the challenges and opportunities ahead?
Growth requires us to take an honest look at where we are and be willing to adjust how we lead, how we communicate, and how we operate.
That’s not change for the sake of change—it’s change with purpose.
Advancing Together
If given the opportunity to serve, my approach will be to work alongside our leaders to continue moving our Tribe forward.
That means:
- Acknowledging what has worked
- Being open to new ideas
- Focusing on long-term outcomes
- Working together to define what’s needed for the future
Progress doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens through collaboration.
The Power of Collaboration
Strong leadership is not about one voice—it’s about bringing people together.
It’s about listening, sharing perspectives, and finding the best path forward as a team.
Collaboration strengthens decisions.
It builds trust.
And it allows us to move forward with alignment.
Raising the Standard
This perspective ties directly to what I believe in—raising the standard.
Not by disregarding what has been built, but by building on it with intention.
By asking the right questions.
By staying connected.
By focusing on what will carry us forward.
Raising the standard means preparing for what’s next.
Moving Forward
The message from What Got You Here Won’t Get You There is simple, but important:
Growth requires awareness.
It requires humility.
And it requires a willingness to evolve.
As we look ahead, I believe we have an opportunity to continue advancing our Tribe by working together, staying grounded in our values, and preparing for the future.
Because honoring where we’ve been is important.
But defining where we’re going—that’s where leadership matters most.
