Stronger Together: Remembering the Power of Community
As I’ve reflected on our community lately, one thing continues to come to mind—unification.
Not just coming together during good times, but coming together through fellowship, challenges, and adversity.
Growing up in the Poarch community, there was always a strong sense that no one stood alone.
You could rely on people.
You could rely on neighbors.
You could rely on family.
You could rely on the community.
Sometimes that support came through encouragement. Sometimes it came through someone holding you accountable or giving you discipline when you needed it most. But it always came from a place of care and wanting to see you succeed.
That sense of connection shaped many of us growing up.
The Village That Helped Raise Us
When I look back on my childhood, I realize there were many people who helped steer my life in the right direction.
Some offered advice.
Some offered support.
Some simply set an example through how they lived their lives.
Those individuals may never fully realize the impact they had, but their influence helped shape the person I became.
For that, I will always be thankful.
The Strength of Fellowship
One of the things that has always made our community special is the ability to come together.
Whether during celebrations, difficult seasons, or times of uncertainty, there has always been strength in fellowship.
That connection matters.
It creates support systems.
It builds trust.
And it reminds us that we are part of something bigger than ourselves.
Challenges Can Either Divide or Unite
Every community faces challenges.
The question is not whether challenges will come—the question is how we respond when they do.
Do we allow differences to divide us?
Or do we come together with a shared commitment to move forward?
I believe our strength has always been found in unity.
Not in always agreeing, but in caring enough about each other and our community to continue having conversations, supporting one another, and working toward a stronger future together.
Staying Connected Across Generations
As our community continues to grow and evolve, it is important that we continue strengthening those connections across generations.
Our elders carry wisdom and history.
Our adults carry responsibility and leadership.
And our youth carry the future.
We need all of those voices.
Because preserving the spirit of our community is just as important as preserving its history.
Carrying It Forward
The love, support, accountability, and sense of belonging that many of us experienced growing up are things worth carrying forward.
They are part of what makes our community strong.
As we look toward the future, I believe one of the greatest things we can continue to invest in is each other.
Because when we stay connected, support one another, and move forward together, we strengthen not just our community—but our legacy.
